Harvesting the rain water is commonly used today . Normally water is collected from house roof and stored in rain water barrels and the water used for drinking, cooking, washing clothes, bathing, watering the plants, and many other uses.

Traditionally people use their old oil drums and put it outside the houses and use it as rain barrels to collect the rain water.

if your area have a good distribution of rain you can use the small containers but if not the larger container maybe needed. In the dry periods that there is no rain you may still have to collect water from traditional water source.

The quality of water in a rainwater system is a major concern. Typically, if the water is filtered as it enters the tank and stored in dark conditions, water quality is good and will improve with time. It is also recommended that during the first five minutes of heavy rain after a dry period, this water is disposed pushing the feeding tube to one side.

The facilities for rainwater harvesting must be insured against reflux, gas, sewer and animals  for example against rats, who like to move water from  tanks and to prevent the prevent mosquitoes from breed in the tank all openings part of the tank should be covered with mosquito mesh.

Today many shop offer rain barrels for sale but you have to carefully choose the best product that for better water quality. Afraid of using rain barrels because it will look bad for your home? it did not matter anymore because it’s been a lot of models to choose from and no longer shaped like a drum.
